Viva la Vida - A Westwood Celebration of Life
Immerse yourself in the vibrant celebration of Viva la Vida, the youth focused community event happening during our month long celebration of Muertos. Experience the rich cultural traditions of Westwood as the community unites for an enchanting evening filled with captivating performances by Youth Ballet Folklorico and Danza Azteca, powerful vocal renditions, and the opportunity to contribute to the community ofrenda. Presented by In Lak'ech Denver Arts, Viva la Vida is a remarkable production that pays homage to Dia de los Muertos and showcases the incredible talents of 5th-12th grade students engaged in In Lak'ech dance, music, and visual arts programming. This extraordinary event provides youth with a platform to honor their ancestors through traditional ballet folklorico, soul-stirring mariachi music, and a mesmerizing Dia de los Muertos art installation. Audiences will be enthralled by ballet folklorico performances representing the regions of Jalisco, Veracruz, Sinaloa, and Nuevo León, while the youth mariachi group, Mariachi Quetzal, will delight with beloved Mexican classics such as "Cielito Lindo," "Árboles de la Barranca," and "La Malagueña." Additionally, attendees will have the pleasure of admiring a student art show featuring custom painted calaveras and mini altares, paying tribute to the loved ones of the talented students. Festival de las Catrinas
Festival de Catrina is a captivating performance organized by Julio García, director of the Ballet Folklórico Sangre de México. This enchanting event will take place in conjunction with the Muertos en Westwood Street Festival, and serves to promote and preserve the cherished Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos in the United States, with an authentic cultural celebration. Through mesmerizing dance performances, engaging crafts, and informative presentations, we gather to honor and embrace the significance of this beloved tradition. With meticulously crafted settings including a cemetery, colorful alebrijes, fragrant flowers, and altars dedicated to influential figures and departed loved ones, we create an immersive atmosphere using wood, colored paper, paint, and glue. We invite our community to join us in this magical event where attendees can also participate in workshops to learn the art of crafting cardboard and paper creations, allowing everyone to become active contributors in this community celebration.
