Join us in creating your own ofrenda(offerings)/altar in this FREE commuity workshop. Our ancestors created ofrendas to honor and celebrate their ancestors. The structure of the ofrenda is created to welcome our beloved ancestors back to us and also so they leave with full arms back to Mictlan. Learn about the 9 levels of Mictlan and the how the altar honors our ancestors journey to Mictlan or the mexica underworld. Mini Altars will be displayed at the Muertos en Westwood Street Festival. PERSONAL NICHO WORKSHOPS
Learn how to create your own personal nicho offering in this FREE community workshop. This tradition dates back to the 1500s during the colonial Spanish era, but has become part of Mexican folk art. This 3-dimensional box is often decorated by a variety of images or objects and can be accentuated with bright colors. Each is unique, acting as a showcase of the individual artist. Your Nicho will not only be a stunning piece of art but a heartfelt expression of remembrance that will be displayed at the Muertos en Westwood Street Festival. MUERTOS CEMPAXOCHITL WORKSHOPS
Join us for this FREE community workshop and learn how to create Cempaxochitl flowers! Cempaxochitl is a mexika flower used during times of Mikailwitl and Dia de los Muertos. The flower is placed on ofrendas because the scent helps our ancestors find there way back. Help us create these flowers to help decorate the Muertos en Westwood Street Festival. PAN DE MUERTO CLASS
Learn how to make Pan de Muerto. This FREE community class will be offered in Spanish and English and is open to youth over 9 years old and adults. In this hands-on experience, you'll learn the time-honored art of crafting this delicious, sugar-topped bread that's at the heart of Day of the Dead celebrations. Limited spaces are available. SKULL PAINTING WORKSHOP
In Lak'ech Denver Arts is providing a FREE two and half-hour skull painting workshop to 5th- 12th grade youth and their families! We will provide participants with the all the materials they need to work alongside local multimedia artist, Isaac Lucero where they will learn more about Dia de los Muertos and the special tradition of skull painting. NOCHE DE PINTURA Y CULTURA
Noches de Pintura y Cultura is a FREE fun painting night with the theme Dia de los Muertos: Honor and Remembering our Ancestors. Participants will be provided with all the materials they need to work alongside local artist/muralist Julio Mendoza and Jewelry designer Ana Marina Sanchez. SABORES Y RECUERDOS CLASSES
Join us for this FREE commuity class offered by the Re:Vision promotoras. Each week will highlight the recipes and dishes from one of the Promotoras and their memories from a lost loved one. The dishes and recipes shared during these community classes will be used to create a new commermorative book called: Sabores y Recuerdos: A Culinary Tribute Honoring Nuestros Antepasados.
