2021 will be the 9th annual Frida Kahlo - Celebration of Life & Resistance event in Westwood. This event is more than the commodification of Frida and her image and instead represents Frida as a person and her ideology. It is an annual event that is put on by the community and for the community and focuses on Frida as a radical artist and political activist. This year there will be two components to the Frida Celebration. The first is a community focused event with an art show, local vendors, food, live music, aztec dancing, a Frida Look-ALike Contest and more. The second component will be a four part dinner series highlighting food from local women professional and community chefs and that feature a different community leader and focus on a different social justice issue each week.
