2021 will be the 9th annual Frida Kahlo - Celebration of Life & Resistance event in Westwood. This event is more than the commodification of Frida and her image and instead represents Frida as a person and her ideology. It is an annual event that is put on by the community and for the community and focuses on Frida as a radical artist and political activist. This year there will be two components to the Frida Celebration. The first is a community focused event with an art show, local vendors, food, live music, aztec dancing, a Frida Look-ALike Contest and more. The second component will be a four part dinner series highlighting food from local women professional and community chefs and that feature a different community leader and focus on a different social justice issue each week.
LAS NOCHES DE FRIDA 2021
"Las Noches de Frida" dinner series is a four-part community focused fundraiser, featuring local professional and community women chefs sharing their favorite family dishes and why Frida Kahlo inspires them. Each dinner will feature a different community leader and focus on a different social justice issue important to Frida Kahlo. The dinners will take place at the RISE Westwood campus with a cocktail hour on the Plaza de Mexica and community dinner inside the RISE Westwood building. Proceeds from this event will support the local community in Westwood including the chefs, D3Arts, the RISE Westwood Collective, Re:Vision and other local community partners. Ticket revenue will also help support the ticket cost of local community members invited to take part in the event.
